NWS Upton, NY SKYWARN Training Classes
NWS Upton NY Requires Tri-yearly Retraining For Spotters
Starting in 2002 all NWS Upton NY SKYWARN Spotters must be retrained at least once every 3 years. This is so that you will be up-to-date on the latest Spotter information. Classes will be held throughout the NWS's Upton NY CWFA starting in Spring of 2002 so be sure to attend one in your area if you haven't attended a Basic Class recently.
2002 Basic Spotter Training Classes
The Bergen County NJ Basic SKYWARN Spotter Training Class was held at The Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in the Hall Of Heroes Auditorium, located in Mahwah, Bergen County NJ on April 18th 2002. We are pleased to report that there were over 50 Spotters and Guests in attendance.
The Bergen County NJ SKYWARN Coordinators wish to thank all those who attended, as well as Gary Conte, Warning and Coordination Meteorologist, NWS Upton, NY who lead the Class. We especially wish to thank and welcome the 32 - New For 2002 SKYWARN Spotters, who received their initial training and are now a valuable part of the SKYWARN Team.
2002 Advanced Spotter Training Classes
The Bergen County NJ Advanced SKYWARN Spotter Training Class was held at The Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in the Hall Of Heroes Auditorium, located in Mahwah, Bergen County NJ on May 14th 2002. We are pleased to report that there were over 65 Spotters and Guests in attendance.
Spotters in attendance came from both the Upton, NY and Mt Holly, NJ NWS CWA's. They were from 54 unique municipalities, based in 15 different Counties located throughout Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
The Bergen County NJ SKYWARN Coordinators wish to thank all those who attended, as well as Scott Reynolds, Senior Forecaster and SKYWARN Program Leader, NWS Upton, NY who conducted the Class.
An Advanced Spotter Training Classes was also held on Tuesday, May 21st 2002 in Southold NY. These classes expanded upon the concepts taught in the Basic Class and delved deeper into many of the causes of severe weather.
SKYWARN Spotter Training Classes are not limited just to residents of the Counties where they are held . All NWS SKYWARN Spotter Training Classes (see Note below regarding a pre-requisite regarding Advanced SKYWARN Spotter Training Classes) are open to all who wish to attend.
Note: to attend an Advanced SKYWARN Spotter Class you must be an up-to-date Trained Spotter...i.e. you have attended a SKYWARN Spotter Training Class within the last 3 years.
